All‑Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Side‑by‑Sides (SbS) are designed primarily for off‑road use and include both utility and recreational models. ATVEA members are committed to placing safe, compliant vehicles on the European market, meeting all applicable EU requirements—including construction, sound, and emissions rules—and contributing to CEN standards that support compliance with the EU Machinery Directive for non‑road vehicles.
Yet even the safest vehicle ultimately depends on how it is used.
ATVEA strongly promotes the principle: Safety first, always.
To help riders get started, ATVEA offers a free, self‑paced and interactive eTraining where users can learn the fundamentals of ATV riding and build safe operating habits.
Although SbS vehicles may resemble 4×4 cars, their structure and intended use are very different. They are not meant for paved roads or public roads, except when necessary to reach off‑road terrain.
ATVEA’s recommendations for SbS operators include:
Always fasten seatbelts for driver and passengers.
Respect maximum load and towing capacity as described in the Owner’s Manual.
Operate responsibly on unpaved terrain and avoid high‑risk manoeuvres.
ATVs and SbS share trails and natural areas with many outdoor enthusiasts. Responsible behaviour protects the environment and ensures harmonious co‑existence.
Users should:
