Due to serious concerns regarding the workability, proportionality and value of the current database for information on Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products). ATVEA has joined several industry associations to call on the EU Commission to postpone the notification deadline for the database and to conduct an impact assessment.
In 2018, as an outcome of the revision of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), the EU Institutions tasked the European Chemical Authority (ECHA) to establish and maintain the #SCIPdatabase. From January 5 2021, companies supplying articles containing substances of very high concern (SVHCs) on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) on the EU market have to submit information on these articles to ECHA.
ECHA failed to comply with the WFD, failing to establish a database for the data to be submitted January 5 2020, preventing companies from developing, testing and adapting their own systems to meet the January 2021 notification deadline.
